About Red Seal Trades

A practical reference for understanding Canadian trades, certification pathways and examination preparation.

About the provider

Red Seal Trades is an independent Canadian trades information and study resource. It is not a government agency, apprenticeship authority, certification body or official partner of the Red Seal Program. We do not book official exams or issue trade certification.

What the study packages include

The catalogue includes 20 trade profiles, certification guides and a provincial and territorial authority directory. Each study workspace includes 7–12 core lessons, a 32-case walkthrough book, eight worked calculation methods and a bank of 461–580 practice items, depending on the trade.

The base bank contains 128 case items exploring 32 situations from four angles and 72 calculations using eight methods with nine numerical variants each. The bank also includes 12 lesson questions per trade, or 24 for Truck and Transport, and 249–368 trade study questions per trade, including relevant questions shared between related trades. A separate workshop includes sequencing, matching and written-reasoning exercises. Four foundational chapters and some supporting cases are shared across relevant trades. The casebook, lesson checks, offline practice paper and 13 practice formats reuse this material; their counts should not be added together as separate banks.

Account features include lesson completion, personal notes, question bookmarks, item coverage, first-attempt and latest accuracy, scheduled review, an exam-date study plan, calendar download and an offline HTML workbook that can be printed or saved as PDF, and a tab-separated recall-card export.

Editorial approach

We develop original questions, explanations and worked examples using source research and AI assistance. Independent trade-expert validation is not claimed. No question is represented as an actual, recalled or leaked official examination item.

Sources and references

Trade profiles describe the work, common settings, skills and routes to certification. Our guides link to the Red Seal Program and responsible provincial or territorial authorities. Source notes and review dates show where to confirm current requirements.

How references are used

Each trade links to its official scope page. These links identify the trade and direct you to authoritative exam information; they do not establish that an official body has verified our questions. Full simulations use the published question count for the trade and a four-hour time limit. Each trade has Form A and Form B. Both match every published task count and the official ranges for knowledge and recall, procedural and application, and critical-thinking questions. No question family appears in both forms. Items have editorial task, subtask and cognitive labels; these labels do not replace qualified technical review or establish mastery of the whole occupational standard. Half exams and diagnostics use proportionally rounded task counts. Retaking the same form repeats its content; study formats reuse the bank.

What a practice score means

A score measures performance on this question set only. Repeated exposure to related scenarios and numerical variants, and differences from the official examination, limit what can be inferred. There is no pass guarantee or certification awarded.
